Building a scalable design system and delivering 100+ UI screens for an AI-powered automotive mapping platform — from component architecture to shipped product.
At AAI GmbH, I was contributing to building an AI-powered mapping platform for the automotive industry — used by engineers to ensure a safety environment and successful testing of the new technologies. The design process lacked a unified system, which led to inconsistency across screens and slowed down collaboration between designers and engineers.
The goal was to establish a scalable design system from the ground up, while simultaneously designing and delivering a large volume of production-ready UI screens.
The design system covered every layer of the product — from primitive tokens (colour, spacing, type) to complex interactive components. It was built in Figma with auto-layout, variants, and thorough documentation so engineers and future designers could work independently.
The design system significantly reduced design-to-development friction and gave the team a shared language. New screens could be assembled in hours rather than days, and visual consistency across the product improved noticeably.
